A Visit to New Mexico Alumnus Charles Smith'63

Class of 1963

Charles Smith could not make it to his 50-year reunion at P&S, so P&S visited him and his wife, Ann, in Santa Fe, N.M. Faye A. Farese, director of anniversary class giving for the P&S Alumni Association, was on vacation when she stopped to visit Dr. and Mrs. Smith at their home in the mountains near Santa Fe. "It is an honor to have the opportunity to work with such gracious and distinguished alumni who welcome me into their homes when I travel," Ms. Farese says. Dr. Smith retired in 2003 after a career that included practicing and teaching medicine and positions as chief of medicine, medical director, and president/CEO of a teaching health care system headquartered in Wilmington, Del. Retirement in Santa Fe includes work with a clinic that cares for 20 percent of Santa Fe's residents, most of whom are uninsured. He also is a docent at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, has researched the traditional Native American concept of health, and studies Spanish.
